A long day at the hospital.
Yesturday Craig saddled up for chemo round 3.
First we did blood work, then headed to breakfast. The stat blood work takes about 45 minutes.
His white blood count is AMAZING at 7300 and the last 2 days before chemo he was feeling fabulous! So he went in healthy which is what they always look for. There is still one of the lymphomas in his neck that you can feel but its small, we will know about the one in his chest when they do the other tests.
There was good and bad news.
Which do you want first?
The good news? Well the next round of chemo on January 20th MAY BE THE LAST!!!!
The bad news? Radiation takes 5-6 weeks.
I know, we were both thinking it would be like chemo he would go in and get zapped a few times and poof we would be done.
Nope its 5-6 weeks EVERYDAY.
EVERYDAY for 5-6 weeks they "zap" the problem spots.
5 to 6 weeks feels like forever!! To be honest we were both a little crushed. It just seems like SUCH a long time commitment.
EVERYDAY for 5-6 weeks in the hospital. The silver lining of the whole situation is the first couple of times it will take about an hour or two to calibrate the machine but once they have the machine calibrated it will only take about 15-20 minutes each time.
And he is losing his hair. I was joking that at least he can stop lying that he has a receding hair line. So far its just thinning out. Lots. And I was SUPER excited to be able to use ALL my sheets and linens (changing them every other day). Because with chemo you lose ALL the hair (depending on the person) lets just say my hairy little man in shedding like a St. Bernard. He skin looks fabulous though.
We will know more of what that looks like soon.
Craig has an appointment with an "on call" doctor the 19th, then chemo the 20th and then on the 24th they will do the PET scan again to check the tumors and how much they have changed.
This nurse is Beth. I think I mentioned before its always the same 3 nurses so I love it. There is a comfort in knowing that they already know your story. Also his treatment plan and what we have been through already. They seem to light up when they see us so that is comforting as well.
I will be in Las Vegas for business the 17-24 (well business for the 17-20 then Girls trip 20-24th) so Craig's sister Marie will be in town taking care of him (he will refuse he is being taken care of) so I am happy about that. I will make sure she takes lots of pictures and we will update the blog.
As a wife who's husband is going through Cancer its REALLY hard for me to let go and actually take the trip. Its hard to be away when someone you love is sick. But we talked about it. And for myself and my spirit I am going to go. And I have issues of letting that go. And I have some great friends (Hi Sal, Jodi, Christine, Jennifer) that are meeting me in Vegas we will be 8 ladies all together so needless to say it will be an amazing time. And I know these ladies will lift me and my spirits up and my business will thrive as well.
So wanna know what chemo looks like for us? I know you do?
So that is where we are at. Plugging right along.
We will meet with the oncologist and the radiologist oncologist on January 26th to go over the PET tests and get a little more info about what radiation looks like.
So we were hoping to move at the end of February and now with radiation it looks like its more going to be the middle of March. But that is life.
We wanted to make sure we "finished" treatment here. Once radiation is done we will wait a week to see what the "results" of that were.
And if needed (WHICH WE WILL NOT) if more chemo is needed we will commence that in Kansas.
I am still baffled at how fast this has all gone. And and I grateful for how fast it has gone.
Craig is a little upset about GAINING weight. Yeah probably the only person in history that manages to gain weight in Chemo. ha ha He jokes that "Well if I have to lose the hair why can't I lose some weight too?" He says it the steroid he takes the 3 days after chemo. Who knows.
Thank you all again for your love and support.

Enjoy your trip. Craig wants you to be happy and you need a break as well. It will be good for you. Glad the treatments are going OK so far.
ReplyDeleteWow...the good news is awesome but the bad news isn't too bad!!! Radiation is a BREEZE compared to chemo, no sickness just tired and like a bad sunburn for a few treatments!! Did they tell him he'll probably get little tattoos for the "calibrating" (they are tiny but funny, I thought anyway) I'll pray for great PET scan results!! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything that is coming up!!
ReplyDeleteMuch love to both you & Craig hon. Enjoy your trip and try to have fun with your girls! You both need to live LIFE! So, so, SO glad to hear that Craig is doing so well and everything is going well. My thoughts, prayers are going to you both & your families along with daily Deeksha (oneness blessing).
ReplyDeleteStay strong. You are so loved and supported.
Much love & hugs,
Alana
